Beautiful Amethyst Cabochons  - Intricate Silver Gilt Filigree -
This sensational vintage Chinese gold plated silver (vermeil) filigree and amethyst ring is so Good Looking on the hand!
Opulent and romantic, the ring is dimensional and highly detailed, with 8 bezel-set natural Amethyst cabochon stones encircling a larger one that surmounts the domed face.  The bezels appear to be made up of separate "petals" of metal, some slightly overlapping, like flowers'.  The textural wire work is especially fine and includes applied beading, twisted "rope" and rosettes.  On top of the "woven" filigree at the shoulders there is smooth flat wire in a curlicue design.  Under and around the dome, the scalloped edge frames and sets it off like an elaborately decorated bombe dessert presented on a fancy tray.
Amethyst has long been viewed as a stone with many marvelous attributes, from detoxifying and calming to promoting wealth and health.  To the Chinese, the stone amethyst has very positive energy and is considered auspicious in feng shui.  Something about these purple cabs is soothing, but powerful, and they are indeed beautiful, surmounting the golden filigree.
As is typical of these old Chinese export rings, the ring size is readily adjustable.  It is currently about a size 8.25.  It weighs 11.7 grams.  The face is about 1" diameter and about 1/2" deep, meaning the dome will rise that high from the surface of your finger, giving it a fabulous profile.  It looks absolutely stunning on the hand and will make all your gestures more interesting.  I was wearing a gold Sputnik ring (sorry, not for sale) when I took photos for the listing and was struck by how favorably it compares to that (much more expensive ring and its) wonderful form.
It is signed "Silver" on the inside.  (Last photo.)
The ring is in Very Good vintage condition with not much more than surface dirt and light scratches.  There are the usual slight inconsistencies in execution that only add to its hand made charm.  There are the expected irregularities in the natural stones, mentioned only for completeness.  The gold wash is completely intact and has mellowed slightly to a lovely rich vintage patina; cleaning and polishing are left to the buyer's discretion.
