I am selling a charming vintage English nursery rhyme plate!
The plate is made by Ridgways, it is a Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes plate.
The main central scene shows two young girls, dressed in 19
th
century era fashions, about to take tea. Below the scene is the famous nursery rhyme
“Polly put the kettle on,
Polly put the kettle on,
Polly put the kettle on,
We’ll all have tea.
Sukey take it off again,
Sukey take it off again,
Sukey take it off again,
They’ve all gone away.”
The rim shows lovely pastoral scenes of the English countryside.
The plate is made on an ivory clay body, and measures 10” in diameter.
The back has two backstamps, one reads
“MOTHER
GOOSE
RIDGWAYS
ENGLAND
OR
THE  OLD
NURSERY RHYMES”.
The other backstamp reads
“OLD
ENGLAND WARE

Condition is very good estate sale condition. There are a few utinsel scuffs and scratches on the front, and some minor wear on the rim. The main condition issue is the glaze crazing. It is visible, but nothing like what shows in the photos. The photos captured the crazing well beyond what it shows in person, you’ll have to trust me on this. Collectors of English pottery know that it does craze, so this is nothing out of the expected for a plate of this heritage. No other sign of use or wear, and no damage at all.
