Description
This tureen is absolutely beautiful and almost blemish-free. There are no nicks, cracks, or chips. There is some crazing, mostly visible on the inside of the bowl. There is also a glaze imperfection in the bottom. I tried to enhance it in the photo. It is not pronounced. It was manufactured in about 1905, in the Bedford Works, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. The pattern, Sefton, appears to be rather rare. The only comparison I could find were in blue or Flow-blue. I could not find anything at all in Sefton green. I would characterize this green as dark or forest green on ivory semi-porcelain with gold trim on the bowl, base, and handles. The handles are formed as strips of ribbon and edged in gold. Sadly, the lid is missing. Still it would be a lovely serving dish for a large gathering--Christmas, Easter, Passover, etc.--or a buffet table.I hope someone can give this lovely piece a home.
